Everything you need to know about preparing digital passport photos and signature scans for SSC, UPSC, IBPS, and state exams.

Compress Photo & Signature Under 20KB for Exams

Competitive exam application forms in India, the US, and worldwide have rigid image upload guidelines. The two most common requirements are a passport-style photograph (20KB - 50KB) and a digital signature scan (10KB - 20KB).

Failure to adhere to the exact file size, dimension constraints, or format rules is one of the leading causes of form rejection.

Key Exam Guidelines Checklist

Before compressing your files, verify the following specifications:

  • Format: Almost all portals require JPEG or JPG format.
  • Background: Plain white or light grey background without shadows.
  • Dimensions:
    • Passport Photo: Typically 3.5cm x 4.5cm (approx. 132 x 170 to 350 x 450 pixels).
    • Signature: Typically 3.5cm x 1.5cm (approx. 140 x 60 pixels).
  • File Size: Between 10KB and 20KB.

How to Prepare Your Signature

  1. Sign clearly on clean white unruled paper using a black ink pen.
  2. Take a well-lit photo or scan the signature.
  3. Crop closely around the signature to eliminate excess empty space.
  4. Upload to Resize to 20KB, set the target size to 15KB or 20KB, and click Compress.

Your signature will remain sharp and legible while fitting perfectly under the maximum limit!
